- Bible Verses
The Bible is full of so many wonderful verses with the power to forever change our lives. It doesn’t matter if you are struggling with what you believe or looking for inspiration to change your community, the Bible has something to say. For many people who just started back to school, the idea of facing down a long year can be intimidating, but God’s Word is there for us. Reading these inspirational Bible verses can help you finish all that you must accomplish and help you set your sights on what really matters. Here are some of the best Bible verses to get you through the school year.
Colossians 3:23-24
“Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.”
This is one of the most important Bible verses to get you through the school year or just about anything else. When you are at your wit’s end after hours of grading papers or conducting research for a project, remember the way you handle assignments doesn’t just say something about your work ethic. Each task you complete is you giving God your best effort.
Proverbs 16:3
“Commit your works to the Lord and your plans will be established.”
Instead of trying to make all your plans perfect, commit to doing everything for the sake of the Lord. If you follow through on this, you’ll see that simply working to give Him glory will get you farther than your own plans ever could have. Outside of academics, an athlete would also be wise to follow these words.
Hebrews 10:24-25
“And let us consider together how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
Found in the book of Hebrews, these words may be describing the importance of a healthy church, but it’s also applicable to the need for community and accountability between teachers and students. Encouragement is necessary for making it through the long school year, whether it comes from parents, teachers, administrators, or students.
Matthew 5:16 - Bible Verses to Get You Through the School Year
“Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”
How we live our lives as Christians is of the utmost importance because we are all ambassadors for Christ no matter where we go. Rather than giving in to complacency, complaining, or comparison, see how you can impact your world at school for the cause of Christ. Remember, we are doing it all for His glory.
Proverbs 6:10-11
“‘A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest’ -- your poverty will come in like a vagabond and your need like an armed man.”
Getting proper rest is necessary for any student or educator, but there is a point where we risk falling into an attitude of laziness. You need to avoid this if you’re going to survive the school year. Once we adopt a spirit of laziness, it’s not long before grades begin to slip or teachers begin to cut corners in their work.
Romans 12:12 - Bible Verses to Get You Through the School Year
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
The education process is one where students are constantly learning new things and moving on from the past. Our lives as Christians are similar in that we are never really done pressing onward. Let go of what doesn’t work and move past anything that threatens to keep you from God.
Philippians 4:6-7
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Among the most valuable Bible verses to get you through the school year is Philippians 4:6-7. We all struggle with anxiety, be it from giving a big report or some other cause which frightens us. It’s easy to let fear take over, but the Bible reminds us that God is in control. For that reason we should trust in Him and consistently communicate with our Heavenly Father.
Matthew 6:34
“‘So do not worry about tomorrow: for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Like the previous verses concerning anxiety, Matthew 6:34 tells us to not get ahead of ourselves and allow for stress to overcome us. Work through your day walking in the grace of God. When you get up tomorrow, do it again. There’s nothing wrong with planning ahead, but when we allow future possibilities to rob us of today’s joy, we’re not trusting in God.
Philippians 4:13
“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”
This is one of the most basic Bible verses used by those seeking to achieve big things. Paul here is saying that God allows for him to share the gospel with others through a variety of means. Philippians 4:13 isn’t promising you the desires of your heart, but that through the power of God you can perform amazing feats.
Romans 15:13 - Bible Verses to Get You Through the School Year
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
When we choose to fill our minds with ungodly aspirations, entertainment, or comfort, we miss out on His promise to care for us and give us the abundant life. Allow for God to be the fuel source powering your daily life and you’ll find the school year a bit more tolerable.
Hebrews 12:1-2a
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.”
Setting priorities can help us eliminate distractions and do what we were called to do. Throughout the school year you will find a plethora of responsibilities and opportunities, which may or may not be good things, which God has not placed along the course marked out for you. Keep the first things first and focus your eyes on Christ.
James 1:2-4
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
Persecution is one of many ways in which we can be tested in this life. Maybe you are facing pushback from coworkers or students over your beliefs. It could be that something tangential to your faith has put you in hot water. Regardless of what happens, know that sticking close to Christ is the right move. Your persistence will pay off in the end, one way or another.
These Bible verses to get through the school year are just a few of the many great words of wisdom handed down by God. Stand firm, do your best work, and trust God to deliver. That’s about all you can do in any phase of life.
