New Release Christian Books of 2018: Non-Fiction

With only about a month left in 2018, it’s time to list some of our favorite new release Christian books of the year. Whether you’re looking to catch up on a year’s worth of reading or you simply want to find a good stocking stuffer, we’ve got your back. This year’s biggest non-fiction books range from harrowing biographies to self-help to better understanding Christianity in the 21st century. While not every book may be to your liking, we know there are at least a few great reads waiting for your bookshelf.

“Letters to the Church” - Francis Chan

Through all of his books, Francis Chan has been able to present a radical truth to Christian readers. “Crazy Love” was about the complete, amazing love God has for us. “Forgotten God” reminded us of the influence of the Holy Spirit. “Multiply” challenged churches to discipleship. “Erasing Hell” warned us against watering down the gospel. With “Letters to the Church,” Chan is looking to heal the people of God and restore the Church to its proper setting. Western culture in the modern age has had an effect on how we live our lives and worship God. “Letters to the Church” wants to help us make a course correction.

“Remember God” - Annie F. Downs

When things aren’t going our way, it’s easy to forget about God. We may not shake our fists at Him or completely gift up on what we believe, but our actions may indicate a lack of faith. Annie F. Downs is the host of the “That Sounds Fun” podcast and the author of “Looking For Lovely.” Drawing from her personal experience, Downs guides readers through a remembrance of who God is and why it matters, no matter what we are going through.

“Everybody Always” - Bob Goff - New Release Christian Books of 2018

Bob Goff captivated readers with the publication of “Love Does” in 2012. The author’s approach to loving others and staying positive has become a beacon of hope for many. In this follow-up, Goff continues to spread his message of helping others and seeing the best in people, often drawing from his own experiences as a lawyer and non-profit founder. Be prepared for a challenging message the world could use.

“Overcomer” - Dr. David Jeremiah

The Bible has many empowering words for believers: conquerors, the children of God, overcomers. How can we enjoy the freedoms we have been given and live in the strength of God? Dr. David Jeremiah believes the answer can be found in Ephesians 6:10-18 where Paul lists the armor of God. By understanding this passage and living in light of it, we can more easily find and sustain the victory God has given us.

“Unshakable Hope” - Max Lucado

There are only a few Christian authors who can provide comfort and healing quite like Max Lucado. The author of such books as “Anxious for Nothing” and “You’ll Get Through This,” Lucado’s work has been vastly important for modern Christians in need of hope. With this book the author keeps this theme alive by proclaiming the invulnerability of God’s hope. The only things we can expect from the world are chaos and suffering, but our God has overcome the world.

“It’s Not Supposed to Be This Way” - Lysa TerKeurst

A theme with many of the new release Christian books of 2018 is making sense of a fallen world. In “It’s Not Supposed to Be This Way,” author Lysa TerKeurst walks us through the process of grieving a life where things don’t turn out the way you hoped. TerKeurst has recently been through a series of trials where life took a serious turn. Here she writes through what she felt in those times and shares what she feels is an important lesson about starting over.

“This is the Day” - Tim Tebow

If you’re looking for inspiration and want to conquer some new goals in 2019, “This is the Day” is a great reading choice. Tim Tebow has inspired millions around the country through his athletic feats and strong beliefs. Having made his dreams a reality, all while pursuing the Lord, Tebow now wants to help others do what they feel they have been called to do in life. This book aims to help you use the gifts God has given you, overcome obstacles, and find your purpose within the environment God has placed you.

“In His Image” - Jen Wilkin - New Release Christian Books of 2018

As Christians we don’t have to worry much about how we are to live. Aside from the values it teaches us, the Bible reminds us we are made in the image of God. This means, in some way, we are called to reflect His image. Walking through the attributes of God, author Jen Wilkin allows readers to find whom we are meant to be and how we are to conduct ourselves day to day.

“Everything Happens for a Reason” - Kate Bowler

One of the most talked about new release Christian books of 2018 has been Kate Bowler’s “Everything Happens for a Reason: And Other Lies I’ve Loved.” This memoir tells her personal journey of seemingly living her dream, only to be diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer at 35 years old. What follows is a self-examination which will have you rethinking the things you’ve always heard in Christian circles and the nature of illness.

“Christians in the Age of Outrage” - Ed Stetzer

Watching the news these days can feel as exhausting as running a marathon. From protests and injustice to politics and sports, everyone seems to be outraged at everything. Unfortunately, even Christians have succumbed to this desire to be offended. Ed Stetzer’s new book looks at the anger and pain in the world today and puts forth a treatment plan for a social illness threatening to undo the work God is doing.

“The Gospel Comes with a House Key” - Rosaria Butterfield

When you look at the ministry of Jesus, how did He do so much of His work? By meeting people in their homes, sharing meals, and meeting their needs. Rosaria Butterfield looks at the world today and sees Christians who don’t care for the people in their neighborhoods. What would our world look like if we attempted to practice real community and hospitality? Our homes can be just as much of a mission field as anyplace else if only we are willing to let others in.

“Didn’t See It Coming” - Carey Nieuwhof

We’ve seen a few of the new release Christian books of 2018 dealing with overcoming trials and picking things back up after major disappointment. In “Didn’t See It Coming,” Carey Nieuwhof looks at a similar problem through his own lens of church leadership and personal development. The pastor and podcaster takes us through seven challenges that everyone faces but doesn’t expect. What steps can we take to make sure these challenges don’t destroy us? Let’s make sure we are equipped to handle whatever life throws at us.

“Hope in the Dark” - Craig Groeschel

Knowing God is good only goes so far when life lets us down. “How can God be good if He’s willing to let me go through this?” These situations can hurt our relationship with God and our community with others. Pastor and author Craig Groeschel walks through the many different emotions we feel when the goodness of God does not match up with our current experience. Regardless of what you are going through, there can be hope.

“Gay Girl, Good God” - Jackie Hill Perry

Some of the best new release Christian books come from firsthand accounts of people who have seen the worst and the best of life. When God makes an indelible mark on your life, it’s hard not to share it with the world. Jackie Hill Perry is an author, rapper, and speaker who has seen the blessings of God. At a young age she experienced family dysfunction and embraced a homosexual lifestyle, but God did an incredible work in her life. No matter where you stand on social issues or what theology you subscribe to, Perry’s story will leave an impact.

“Thirst” - Scott Harrison -New Release Christian Books of 2018

You may have heard of charity: water, but you’ve never heard the full story of how God used a twenty-something nightclub promoter to bring clean water to more than 8 million people around the world. Scott Harrison’s journey has been long and arduous, but God has done amazing works through charity: water. Not only do you get a great book when you purchase “Thirst,” but all of Harrison’s net proceeds go toward bringing clean water to the people who need it.

“Playing for More” - Case Keenum

We’ve already heard from one professional athlete on this list of new release Christian books, so how about one more? Case Keenum has played quarterback for multiple NFL teams, including the Minnesota Vikings, Houston Texans, Denver Broncos, and St. Louis Rams. “Playing for More” is an account of his upbringing, setbacks, and the ways in which God has used him as a Christian athlete.
