Are you always wanting to try new things and pick up on the latest resources? If you haven’t already, now is a great time to start listening to podcasts. These informative programs have a lot in common with the radio shows of old, but tend to have a fresher take on things like ministry, leadership, and entrepreneurship. Maybe you want to gain an edge in the business world, or perhaps you’re looking to make some changes in how your church runs things. Whatever the reason, there are some great Christian podcasts for people wanting to listen for the first time. Let’s look at a few different kinds of podcasts and examples of each.
Sermon Podcasts
One of the quickest and easiest ways to get into podcasting is to check out the great Christian podcasts for sermons and teaching. Many of us have grown up listening to famous preachers on the radio, so the transition to podcasts is incredibly easy. Imagine listening to some of the country’s best teachers at the press of a button, and even having a catalogue of hundreds of their sermons to check out. Sermon podcasts allow you to enjoy quality teaching throughout your day wherever you go.
There are many great Christian podcasts from today’s brightest theological minds. For starters, check out the program by Dr. Charles Stanley. This series gives you the famous teacher’s weekly lessons in a format that runs shorter than a half hour, meaning you can probably fit it into your morning commute or as you fix dinner in the evening. Another option with a similar length is Pastor Rick’s Daily Hope. One more recommendation for great Christian podcasts that focus on sermons is A New Beginning with Greg Laurie. Like many sermon podcasts, this one is a repackaging of the pastor’s radio show. We’ve linked to a few other options in the paragraph above.
Leadership Podcasts
From CEOs to high school students, everybody wants to understand what it takes to be a leader. No matter what kind of job we have or ministry we’re involved with, there’s always an application for leadership advice. Leadership development is a concept often aimed at men (just look at how many leadership books are marketed toward men), but the advice found in most books and podcasts works for just about anyone. Leadership podcasts are a great way to discover new ideas and learn to relate with others well.
One of the most popular speakers when it comes to Christian leadership development is Andy Stanley. The pastor of North Point Community Church has a few different podcasts, but the one most relevant to this topic is the aptly named Andy Stanley Leadership Podcast. These lessons range from 15 to 30 minutes and deliver wonderful information on how to take the next step in leadership. Great Christian podcasts often include interviews with popular Christian thinkers. One such program can be found in the 5 Leadership Questions podcast with Barnabas Piper and Todd Adkins. With a set list of important questions on leadership, this show gets a number of different takes on what it means to be a Christian leader.
Business and Finance Podcasts
A subject that often goes hand in hand with leadership is business. While there is certainly some crossover happening there, we wanted to keep things separate for those who are more focused on leadership in ministry/school/home. It’s also good to check out great Christian podcasts for financial advice because that entire sector can be a little difficult to navigate on your own. You might as well listen to experts who are coming from a Christian background.
For business advice, we suggest checking out The Ray Edwards Show. With quality tips on how to reach a bigger audience, increase productivity, and overcome laziness, Edwards might give you the kick you need to change things up. A weekly podcast like The Ziglar Show can also help you to build better relationships with your employees or employer. Common sense combined with Biblical wisdom is a great way to do business. Since most people are already aware of Dave Ramsey’s show, we wanted to point out a few different financial podcasts that fall under the same umbrella. Chris Hogan’s Retire Inspired podcast has a wealth of wisdom (pardon the pun) for those looking to make the most out of retirement. Another one of the great Christian podcasts for finances at Ramsey Solutions is Love, Money and Hope with Chris Brown. This is a good choice for people who like financial advice, but want more than just the Xs and Os. Chris Brown gives reasons for why these things are important and how you can live a financially healthy life.
Church Ministry Podcasts - Great Christian Podcasts
The best way to be innovative in ministry is to challenge the way you are doing things and why. By listening to other opinions and understanding why other ministries do church the way that they do, you just might be inspired to take a different approach yourself. If nothing else, you might get a laugh or find solidarity in how some of your own experiences match those of others in church life.
Youth ministry is a good place to try out new ideas because the coming generation demands a different kind of church in order for things to stay relevant. Kenny and Elle Campbell are behind the website Stuff You Can Use, where youth leaders can find important resources for doing ministry. The duo also hosts a podcast called Youth Ministry Answers where they tackle big questions that arise in this part of the church. Another good choice for youth leaders is the Lifeway Student Ministry Podcast.
Church planting is another aspect of ministry that can be difficult and is ripe for innovation. You might be surprised to know that there are several great Christian podcasts that focus on this issue. The Church Planter Podcast is just one of the options you should check out. You can also go Dylan McCabe’s Apologetics Evangelism podcast for learning more about evangelism. There are so many more topics within church ministry out there to explore.
Entertainment Podcasts
The last kind Christian podcasts we’ll look at are those intended for entertainment. Maybe you’re all set on leadership advice and sermons and you just want something fun and clean to enjoy. For starters, we’d like to suggest Tim Hawkins’ Poddy Break podcast. As one of the top Christian comedians working today, it’s hard to pass on the funnyman hanging out with and interviewing other interesting people. The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey is a fun listen, especially for Christian women, as Ivey interviews successful Christian women from a variety of backgrounds. One more fun option for great Christian podcasts is Glorious in the Mundane hosted by singer Christy Nockels.
There you have it. With over a dozen recommendations for great Christian podcasts, first-timers should be able to hit the ground running. If you enjoy some or all of these programs, you’ll be happy to know that there are hundreds more out there for you to find. In Christian entertainment there are so many good options for music, films, and more. That’s why the K-LOVE Fan Awards is geared toward bringing the best of the best all together for the fans.
